Pa Michael Otedola Dies At 87

Third Republic governor of Lagos State and father of billionaire businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola, Pa Michael Otedola is dead.

Aged 87, Otedola died early Monday, according to a brief statement by his widow, Lady Dola Otedola..

The statement read, “Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola passed away this morning at 87. Funeral arrangements to be announced later by the family.”


Born on July 16, 1926 at Odoragunsin in the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Pa Otedola studied Journalism at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London, graduating in 1958.

He rose to become an information officer in the  government of the defunct Western Nigeria.

In 1991, Pa Otedola was elected governor of Lagos State on the platform of the now defunct  Social Democratic Party (SDP).

His son, Femi, who is the Chief Executive of Zenon Petroleum Gas was recently listed by Forbes as a billionaire and one of the richest men in Africa.

Meanwhile, Governor Babatunde Fashola has declared seven days of mourning in honour of his predecessor.
