Following the zoning of the Enugu governorship position to the Enugu North zone (Nsukka) a group of patriots from the area has urged Governor Sullivan Chime to ensure that his successor is the choice of the people.

The group which expressed concern over the number of aspirants jostling for the plum position noted that only a transparent democratic process can throw up a credible candidate that can sustain the current tempo of good governance in the State.

Enugu North Concerned Patriots a non partisan association of professionals from the area said it is concerned about the emergence of a credible candidate who can sustain the solid development foundation in the State.

In a statement signed by the Secretary General of the group Comrade Ike Abugu and made available to newsmen in Enugu the patriots commended the examplary leadership of Governor Chime which they said has endeared him to the people.

“We thank you for staying true to your promise that the governorship position of Enugu State be zoned to Enugu North in 2015 when the East and West must have completed eight years each.

“We salute your demonstration of courage, patriotism and statesmanship-that justice, equity and fairness to the triangular zones constituting the State remain sacrosanct in your administration.”

They expressed belief that to sustain the tempo of good governance in the State and the concomitant peace, stability, security, development and progress the State has enjoyed in the past six years, “your successor must be a patriot who will place the interest of the state first over any other consideration.

“We therefore strongly advise that the only way this tempo of good governance can be sustained is is through free, transparent democratic process in the emergence of your successor and not through imposition.”
