NBS commences jobs creation survey

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday said it would carry out a survey to determine the total number of jobs created by both the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The agency said in a statement issued in Abuja that the survey, which would commence on Wednesday, was the third in the series of the job creation survey, with the first carried out in the third quarter of 2012.

The survey, the NBS stated, was a collaborative effort involving the National Planning Commission, Central Bank of Nigeria and the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, and was intended to measure the number of jobs created in every quarter of a year.

Beyond the numbers, the agency said the survey would assist the government with necessary information in the formulation of employment policies in Nigeria.

It said, 'This survey is, therefore, coming at the right time in the light of the transformation agenda of the Federal Government, which has poverty reduction through employment generation as its cardinal purpose.'
