The Year 2013

The year 2013 started very well but there are some events or occurences of the year that we will not or never forget. The year started with a memorable second term swearing-in of the African-Originated, first black President of United States of America, Barack Obama. It was also in this 2013 that a lot of insecurity and insurgency were constantly occuring in the Northeast part of Nigeria that led to the declaration of state of emergency in 3 state of Northeast; Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

2013 also encompasses the death of two most powerful and prominent Africans, namely the world acclaimed Father of African Literature Prof. Chinua Achebe and the African activist and South African leader Nelson Mandela.

It was also in 2013, that the Roman Catholic leader, Pope Benedict XVI resigned or retired voluntarily and another pontiff emerged as Pope Francis I. This 2013 also have on its list the retirement of longest serving coach of Man-U and replacement of a new coach that the fans refers as a 'clueless' coach. 2013 also encountered the encouragement of sexual and child abuse by the Nigerian senate, by allowing a serving senator to marry an under-age girl of 13 that almost brought religious divide in the senate. Also in 2013, two youthful Nigerians, represented our dear country in a most controversial TV show Big Brother Africa (BBA), the jail serving ADC to late Gen. Abacha, Al- Mustapha was also released or given a state pardon in 2013.

Also in 2013, the Uk government imposed 3000 pounds cash bond on first-time visa to Nigerian immigrants, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) also embarked on a nation wide strike that lasted closely 6 months and caused many harm and good in the society. The

2013 also has a record of Political party splits, suspension of state Governors from the party and defection of aggrieved members of a political party.

2013 also has the record of deaths of prominent Nigerians, including Sen. Ehwerido of Delta state and Dr. Olusegun Agagu, who died and on his burial day, the airplane conveying the corpse crashed and many lives were lost including the MIC Boss and Son. It also has the record of a 21 year old female Nigerian winning the Miss Muslim World 2013.

The year 2013 also has the record of much controversial, keenly contested Anambra Governorship election by 23 aspirants and was initially declared inconclusive and later declared the APGA candidate the winner at a later concluded election. There were lots of endorsement deals for our Nigerian artistes like Iyanya, Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Sean Tizzle among others.

In 2013, there was a cabinet shake-off and some ministers and special advisers were removed from the Asorock offices and finally in 2013, it recorded series of open letter writing among our leaders and dramas that follows it.
