Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has restated his commitment to empowering the physically challenged persons in the State through skills acquisition and the provision of more jobs.

Okorocha made the remark at a breakfast meeting he held with members of the group at Government House in Owerri on Tuesday.

He also urged them to come up with suggestions aimed at raising their standard of living.

The governor commended them for the peaceful way they had conducted themselves and carried out their activities, urging them to come up with programmes that would uplift their lives.

He said the Rochas Foundation was established because of his love for the physically challenged in the society and advised them not to be politically motivated in any of their actions.

The physically challenged persons in the state staged a peaceful demonstration in the capital in October.

They had demanded among other things, jobs for their members and prompt payment of their monthly allocation.

Okorocha urged them to sheathe their swords and be firm in their support for the present government.

“This administration has the interest of all Imo people at heart.

“One of our priorities, apart from the free education, is to ensure that the physically challenged are well taken care of and have a sense of belonging', he said.

The spokesman for the group, Mr Stanley Nwachukwu, commended the governor for his support for the association, especially in the area of employment.

He, however, requested that more employment be given to the graduates in their midst and promised that they would give maximum support to the government.
