Police Seek 3 Leadership Newspaper Reporters Over News Story

SAN FRANCISCO, April 08, (THEWILL) – Three reporters working for the Abuja based Leadership Newspaper have been invited for questioning by the police in connection with a news story published on April 03, 2013, titled: "Outrage Trail Presidential Directive on Tinubu, APC", with a sub-title captioned: “Bromide of the Presidential Directive.”


According to a letter addressed to the Chairman of the paper, the force directed that Tony Omokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe and Taiwo Ogunmola-Omilani be released for questioning as the police investigate the circumstances leading to the publication of the story.


The letter was dated April 07, 2013 and signed by the Danmallam Mohammed, a Deputy Commissioner of Police who signed on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police ‘D’ Department (FCID).


The reporters were ordered to be at the Force Headquarters this Monday by 10a.m.


The full text of the letter reads: “The office is investigating the circumstances leading to your front page publication titled: ‘Outrage Trail Presidential Directive on Tinubu, APC' and a sub-title captioned 'Bromide of the Presidential Directive.' The publication which featured in your Wednesday, April 3, edition was reported by the trio of Messrs Tony Omokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe and Taiwo Ogunmola-Omilani.


“Based on our facts finding efforts, you are hereby requested to release the above mentioned reporters to interview the DIG of Police ‘D’ Department (FCID) on April 8 at 10.00hrs through the undersigned. Note that it’s your civic and corporate responsibility to assist police investigation by honouring its invitation in the interest of justice and due process.


“Accept the assurance of the esteem regards of the DIG of Police ‘D’ Department (FCID) Abuja please.”
