Manchester City Extend Josko Gvardiol's Contract Until 2031

Manchester City have secured the long-term future of defender Josko Gvardiol after the Croatian international signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.

The agreement underlines the club's confidence in the 24-year-old, who has developed into one of City's most dependable performers since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2023.

Comfortable both in central defence and at left-back, Gvardiol has become an important figure thanks to his composure, versatility, and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Since joining the Premier League champions, Gvardiol has made 122 appearances and scored 13 goals, an impressive return for a defender.

During that period, he has helped the club capture several major trophies, including the Premier League title, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Gvardiol expressed his delight at extending his stay with the club.

He praised the support he has received from Manchester City's fans and highlighted the club's ambition, insisting there is still plenty for the team to accomplish in the coming years.

City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, also welcomed the extension, describing Gvardiol as one of the world's top defenders.

He praised the Croatian's professionalism, tactical intelligence, and ability to excel in multiple defensive roles, adding that the club remains committed to retaining its best players.

Despite suffering a broken shinbone during the 2025/26 campaign, Gvardiol recovered in time to return to action and continues to play a significant role for both Manchester City and the Croatian national team.

With his future now secured, Gvardiol will be aiming to help City compete for more domestic and European honours as the club prepares for another demanding season.
