Manchester City Reward Khusanov With Long-Term Contract Extension

Manchester City have secured the future of defender Abdukodir Khusanov after the Uzbekistan international agreed to a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions.

The 22-year-old has impressed since arriving from French club Lens in January 2025, establishing himself as one of City's brightest young defenders.

His steady performances played an important role in the club's successful campaign, which saw them lift both the FA Cup and League Cup while finishing as runners-up in the Premier League.

Khusanov has also continued to shine on the international stage. A regular for Uzbekistan, he represented his country at the FIFA World Cup and featured in every group-stage match, further enhancing his growing reputation.

Speaking after signing the new deal, the centre-back expressed his delight at extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium.

He said he has enjoyed his time in Manchester and believes he has developed significantly since joining the club.

Khusanov also revealed his ambition to earn a regular place under new manager Enzo Maresca. The defender pledged to keep improving and prove himself worthy of a consistent starting role as City prepare for another demanding season.

Manchester City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised the youngster's progress, describing him as a player with enormous potential.

According to Viana, Khusanov possesses the physical attributes, technical quality, and mentality needed to become one of the world's top central defenders.

The agreement follows another key contract renewal at City after England international Phil Foden recently committed his future to the club, highlighting the club's focus on retaining its core talent ahead of the new campaign.
