Christian Eriksen Begins Rehabilitation in Denmark After World Cup Collapse

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has taken another important step in his recovery after agreeing with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg to continue his rehabilitation programme in Denmark.

The 34-year-old will undergo an individual recovery plan in his home country while remaining under the close supervision of medical specialists.

Wolfsburg confirmed that the decision followed discussions between Eriksen and the club's management, adding that they will continue to monitor his progress throughout the rehabilitation process.

Eriksen's latest recovery phase comes after he suffered a frightening collapse during Denmark's opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The incident forced officials to suspend the game as medical personnel rushed onto the pitch to provide emergency treatment before the midfielder was taken to hospital.

The experienced playmaker later regained consciousness and was reported to be in stable condition, easing fears among teammates, supporters and the wider football community.

Messages of encouragement poured in from football organisations, clubs and fans across the world, all wishing him a full recovery.

Since then, Eriksen has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received and has pledged to follow medical advice as he focuses on regaining his health before considering a return to football.

Widely regarded as one of Denmark's finest footballers, Eriksen has enjoyed an outstanding career featuring spells with Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Brentford, Manchester United and Wolfsburg.

He has also represented Denmark more than 140 times, establishing himself as one of the country's most influential players. His rehabilitation marks another positive milestone as he continues his journey back to full fitness.
