Nigerian Defender Victory Akpe Completes FC Basel Move

Nigerian centre-back Victory Akpe has completed a permanent move to Swiss giants FC Basel, signing a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030.

The 19-year-old arrives from Hungarian top-flight side Zalaegerszegi TE FC after an impressive rise through European football over the past year.

Basel confirmed the transfer, expressing confidence that the young defender will make a strong contribution to the team's future.

Reacting to the move, Akpe described joining Basel as a dream opportunity and said he is eager to adapt quickly to his new surroundings.

The teenager added that he intends to give his best in every match and hopes to help the club compete for major honours.

He also stressed that his mentality is to approach every game with maximum commitment and determination.

Basel's technical director, Andreas Herrmann, praised the Nigerian's qualities, highlighting his strength, speed, aerial ability and aggressive class of defending.

According to Herrmann, Akpe's attributes will provide greater flexibility in defence while offering plenty of room for further development.

Akpe's European journey began in Lithuania with FK Banga Gargždai, where he established himself as a regular starter and gained experience in UEFA Conference League qualifying matches. His performances earned him a transfer to Hungarian outfit Zalaegerszegi TE earlier this year.

The young defender quickly became an important member of the Hungarian club's backline, featuring regularly in league matches and playing the entire Hungarian Cup final despite his team narrowly missing out on the trophy.

His latest move to FC Basel represents another significant milestone in his career as he looks to continue his development at one of Switzerland's most successful football clubs.
