Nigerian Defender Ibrahim Buhari Joins FK Austria Wien on Three-Year Deal

Nigerian defender Ibrahim Buhari has completed a permanent move to Austrian Bundesliga side FK Austria Wien, signing a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.

The 24-year-old arrives from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg, where he established himself as a dependable presence in defence following his move from Nigeria Premier Football League side Plateau United in 2022.

Austria Wien confirmed the transfer and also revealed that Buhari will wear the club's number three jersey as he begins a new chapter in his European career.

Club sporting director Tomas Zorn welcomed the signing, describing Buhari as a player who fits the team's long-term vision.

He praised the Nigerian's physical attributes, defensive qualities and athleticism, adding that the club carefully assessed several options before deciding he was the right addition to strengthen the backline.

According to Zorn, the transfer also aligns with Austria Wien's strategy of building a younger squad capable of competing at the highest level while developing talented players for the future.

Buhari enjoyed a successful spell with IF Elfsborg, making 77 appearances in all competitions and earning a reputation for his consistency, composure and ability to read the game. His performances in Sweden attracted interest from several clubs before Austria Wien secured his signature.

The move represents another important milestone for the former Plateau United defender, who continues to make progress in European football.

Buhari will now be aiming to establish himself as a regular starter and help Austria Wien challenge for honours in the Austrian Bundesliga during the upcoming season.
