Chelsea Open Talks To Sign Rayo Vallecano Defender Pep Chavarria

Chelsea have stepped up their summer transfer activity by opening negotiations with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano over a potential move for defender Pep Chavarria.

The Premier League club is looking to strengthen the left side of its defence following Marc Cucurella's departure to Real Madrid.

New manager Xabi Alonso is keen to add experienced options to his squad as preparations continue for the new season.

Reports indicate that discussions between both clubs are underway, with Chelsea hoping to reach an agreement for the versatile full-back.

Chavarria is viewed as a player capable of providing competition and depth, thanks to his ability to operate as both a traditional left-back and a wing-back.

The 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign with Rayo Vallecano, featuring regularly in domestic and European competitions.

His consistent performances helped the Spanish outfit secure a strong La Liga finish while also making a deep run in Europe.

Chelsea already have Jorrel Hato available for the position after the Dutch defender settled into life at Stamford Bridge following his arrival from Ajax.

However, Alonso is believed to want greater competition in the squad as the Blues prepare for a demanding campaign across multiple competitions.

If the deal is completed, Chavarria would become one of Chelsea's first major signings since Alonso's appointment as head coach.

The club has also been linked with other defensive reinforcements as it seeks to reshape the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Chelsea are expected to continue discussions with Rayo Vallecano in the coming days as they work toward finalising the transfer.
