World Cup 2026: Messi Doesn't Need Instructions - Scaloni

Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has admitted that coaching Lionel Messi is unlike managing any other player, insisting the legendary forward rarely needs tactical instructions before entering a match.

Scaloni made the comments after Argentina's 3-1 victory over Jordan in their final FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage fixture.

Messi started the game on the bench but made an immediate impact after being introduced, scoring Argentina's third goal to wrap up another convincing win.

Asked what he usually tells the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner before sending him onto the pitch, Scaloni responded with humour, saying his only message is to "go and win the game."

The World Cup-winning coach explained that Messi's experience, football intelligence and understanding of the game make detailed instructions unnecessary.

According to Scaloni, the Argentine captain instinctively knows how to read matches and influence proceedings without needing constant guidance from the technical area.

Scaloni also dismissed the suggestion that he should tell Messi where to run or how to control the ball, describing such an idea as unnecessary given the veteran forward's extraordinary qualities.

Argentina finished the group stage in strong form and will head into the knockout rounds full of confidence. Messi's latest goal further underlined his importance to the Albiceleste, even when he is not included in the starting lineup.

With the Round of 32 approaching, Scaloni will hope his captain continues to deliver decisive moments as Argentina pursue another successful World Cup campaign and attempt to defend the title they won four years ago.
