Klopp Backs Iraola to Succeed at Liverpool, Says Luck Will Be Key

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed confidence in new Reds boss Andoni Iraola but believes success at Anfield will depend on more than just coaching ability.

Speaking about Liverpool's managerial change, Klopp described Iraola as an excellent coach capable of leading the club forward.

However, he stressed that every new project requires patience, strong teamwork and a measure of luck before lasting success can be achieved.

The German admitted he was not in a position to comment on the circumstances surrounding Arne Slot's departure but acknowledged that Liverpool fell short of expectations last season despite securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Klopp pointed out that earning a place in Europe's elite club competition should not be overlooked, even though supporters were disappointed with the team's overall performances. He urged fans to give Iraola time to implement his ideas instead of expecting immediate results.

According to Klopp, building a successful team is a gradual process that depends on players, coaching staff and the club working together over an extended period. He added that favourable circumstances often play a significant role in helping managers achieve their objectives.

Iraola arrives at Liverpool with an impressive reputation following an outstanding spell at Bournemouth. During his three seasons with the Cherries, he transformed the club from relegation candidates into genuine contenders for European football.

The Spaniard guided Bournemouth to league finishes of 12th, ninth and sixth, with the club qualifying for the Europa League after an excellent 2025/26 campaign that included an 18-match unbeaten run.

Liverpool supporters will now hope Iraola can replicate that progress at Anfield as the club prepares for a new era under his leadership.
