Egypt Reach World Cup Knockout Stage After Iran Draw

Egypt secured a place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after battling to a 1-1 draw with Iran in a tense Group G encounter in Seattle.

The Pharaohs made a dream start when Mahmoud Saber found the net inside the opening five minutes. Mohamed Salah played a key role in the move, showing clever footwork in the penalty area before Saber finished confidently to put Egypt ahead.

Iran responded quickly and were level before the quarter-hour mark. Ramin Rezaeian capitalized on a well-worked attack to bring his side back into the contest and set up an evenly balanced match.

Both teams pushed for a winner after the break, knowing qualification was still at stake. Egypt looked dangerous on the counterattack, while Iran enjoyed long spells of possession and created several threatening moments in the final third.

The dramatic moment arrived deep into stoppage time when Iran thought they had scored a decisive goal through Shoja Khalilzadeh.

Celebrations erupted among the Iranian players, but a VAR review ruled the effort out for offside, denying them what would have been a historic victory.

The draw was enough to send Egypt through to the Round of 32 for the first time in the country's World Cup history. They finished second in the group behind Belgium and will now face Australia in the next round.

Iran remain unbeaten in the group stage but must wait for other results to determine whether they can still advance to the knockout phase.
