Done Deal: Hobro IK Sign Nigerian Forward Onyebuchi Obasi

Danish side Hobro IK have strengthened their squad with the signing of Nigerian forward Onyebuchi Obasi on a three-year contract ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old joins the club from Norwegian outfit Vålerenga, becoming Hobro IK's fourth addition during the current summer transfer window as they continue preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Obasi began his European journey after leaving Nigerian academy Beyond Limits for Vålerenga in 2024. To aid his development, he spent last season on loan at Swedish club FC Stockholm, where he gained valuable first-team experience before attracting interest from Hobro IK.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Hobro IK sporting director Lars Justesen said the club had closely monitored the striker before deciding to make their move.

He explained that extensive scouting and data analysis highlighted Obasi as the type of attacker the team had been searching for.

According to Justesen, the Nigerian possesses qualities that fit the club's class of play, including pace, dribbling ability and an attacking mindset.

He added that Hobro IK believes the youngster has enormous potential and hopes he will continue to develop while making an impact for the team.

Obasi also expressed his excitement after putting pen to paper, describing the transfer as the right step for his career.

He revealed that discussions with the club's management and coaching staff convinced him that Hobro IK was the ideal environment to continue his development.

The forward said he is eager to wear the club's famous yellow jersey and contribute to a successful campaign.

He promised supporters that he would give his best in every match, describing himself as a hardworking player who enjoys taking on defenders with his speed and direct class of play.

The move represents another important milestone in Obasi's career as he looks to establish himself in Danish football and continue his progression in European football.
