Japan Coach Moriyasu Hopes World Cup Run Inspires Asian Teams

Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu has expressed hope that his team's impressive campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will inspire other Asian nations to believe they can compete successfully on football's biggest stage.

The Samurai Blue secured their place in the Round of 32 after playing out a 1-1 draw against Sweden in their final group match.

Their qualification has drawn admiration from football supporters across Asia, including fans in China, despite the long-standing rivalry and political tensions between the two countries.

Speaking after Japan's qualification was confirmed, Moriyasu said his players are proud to represent not only their country but also the Asian continent.

He explained that the team's achievements could motivate other nations in the region to raise their standards and compete more confidently at future international tournaments.

"We are representing Japan, but we're proud to represent Japan to the world. At the same time, we are also representing Asia," Moriyasu said.

The coach added that even if his side had failed to win their final group match, he still hoped their performances would encourage other Asian teams striving for success on the global stage.

Japan will now prepare for a highly anticipated Round of 32 clash against Brazil as they continue their quest for a historic World Cup run.

Elsewhere, South Korea, Iran and Australia remain in contention to reach the knockout stage, while China once again failed to qualify for the tournament, extending their long wait for another World Cup appearance after their only participation in 2002.
