Vondrousova Hit With Four-Year Ban After Refusing Anti-Doping Test

Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been banned from professional tennis for four years after being found guilty of refusing to take an anti-doping test during an out-of-competition check.

The incident reportedly occurred in December 2025 when a doping control officer arrived at her residence to conduct a routine test.

The Czech player allegedly declined to provide a sample after being notified, triggering an official investigation by tennis authorities.

Vondrousova, who stunned the tennis world by winning Wimbledon in 2023, later explained that her decision was influenced by stress, mental health challenges, and concerns over her personal safety at the time of the attempted test. However, these explanations were not enough to convince the independent tribunal reviewing the case.

After examining evidence from both Vondrousova and the doping control officer involved, the tribunal concluded that there was no strong justification for refusing to comply with the testing procedure.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) emphasized that while the testing process can be demanding and stressful for athletes, it remains a necessary part of ensuring fairness in professional sport. The body also stressed that strict protocols are in place to protect both players and officials during testing procedures.

Following the ruling, Vondrousova’s suspension is set to run until June 21, 2030. During this period, she is prohibited from competing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis events sanctioned by major governing bodies, including the WTA, ATP, ITF, and Grand Slam tournaments.

The 26-year-old Czech star rose to prominence after becoming the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon, defeating Ons Jabeur in the 2023 final. She also boasts a French Open final appearance and an Olympic silver medal, marking her as one of the most talented players of her generation before the ban.
