Undav Double Sends Germany Into World Cup Knockouts After Late Ivory Coast Collapse

Germany have secured their place in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast in Group E.

The match saw Ivory Coast take a surprising lead in the first half through captain Franck Kessié, as they frustrated Germany with disciplined defending and quick counter-attacks.

Despite dominating possession, Germany struggled to break through a compact defensive setup and went into the break trailing.

After the restart, Germany increased their intensity but continued to waste key chances, leaving the game finely balanced.

With pressure mounting, coach Julian Nagelsmann turned to his bench in search of inspiration, introducing Deniz Undav and Nadiem Amiri.

The substitution proved decisive as Undav made an instant impact. He levelled the score in the 68th minute with a composed finish following a well-delivered cross from Amiri, shifting momentum firmly in Germany’s favour.

Ivory Coast were forced deeper as Germany pushed for a winner, but their resistance eventually broke in stoppage time. Undav struck again in the 94th minute to complete his brace and complete a late turnaround.

The victory ensures Germany progress to the knockout stage with a game to spare, maintaining their perfect start to the tournament.

Ivory Coast, meanwhile, must now secure a result in their final group match against Curaçao to keep their hopes of qualification alive.
