Switzerland Cruise Past 10-Man Bosnia as Manzambi Stars
Switzerland produced a dramatic late surge to defeat Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1 in their World Cup Group B clash in Los Angeles, with substitute Johan Manzambi emerging as the standout performer of the night.
The match remained goalless at half-time, with both sides struggling to convert early chances. Switzerland gradually took control after the break but continued to be frustrated by wasteful finishing and a disciplined Bosnia defence.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 74th minute, just minutes after Manzambi was introduced from the bench.
The 20-year-old made an instant impact, volleying home from close range after a well-delivered ball into the box. It was only his fourth touch of the game.
Bosnia’s situation worsened shortly after when Tarik Muharemović was shown a straight red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, leaving his side to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
Switzerland capitalised quickly, with Ruben Vargas adding a second goal through a precise curling effort into the bottom corner.
Vargas then turned provider in the 90th minute, setting up Manzambi for his second goal of the evening from close range.
In stoppage time, captain Granit Xhaka converted a penalty to extend the lead further after Djibril Sow was fouled inside the box.
Bosnia managed a late consolation through a spectacular volley from Ermin Mahmić, but it did little to change the outcome.
The result puts Switzerland in a strong position in Group B, while Bosnia face an uphill battle to progress after a difficult outing in Los Angeles.
