Tunisia Name Hervé Renard As New Head Coach

Tunisia have confirmed the appointment of experienced French manager Hervé Renard as their new head coach following a disappointing start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.

The Tunisian Football Federation moved quickly to make a managerial change after the team’s heavy defeat in their opening match of the tournament.

The loss left the Carthage Eagles at the bottom of Group F and facing a difficult task to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

Renard replaces Sabri Lamouchi and is expected to take immediate charge of the squad as preparations continue for their next group-stage fixture.

His first challenge will be guiding Tunisia in a crucial encounter against Japan, a match that could have a significant impact on their chances of progressing in the competition.

The 57-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience at both international and continental levels. He is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful foreign coaches, having enjoyed memorable spells with several national teams over the years.

Renard made history by becoming the first coach to win the Africa Cup of Nations with two different countries.

He led Zambia to a remarkable title triumph in 2012 before repeating the feat with Ivory Coast in 2015. His coaching career has also included stints with Morocco and Saudi Arabia, where he gained valuable World Cup experience.

One of the highlights of his managerial career came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup when Saudi Arabia stunned eventual champions Argentina with a famous victory in the group stage.

Tunisia will hope Renard’s experience, leadership, and ability to motivate teams can inspire a turnaround as they seek to revive their World Cup campaign and secure a place in the next round.
