Sevilla Striker Rafa Mir Sentenced To 8.5 Years For Sexual Assault

Sevilla forward Rafa Mir has been handed an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence after being found guilty of sexual assault and bodily harm, according to a ruling delivered by the Valencian Community High Court of Justice.

The court confirmed that the Spanish striker was convicted on one count of sexual assault and one count of bodily harm following a trial held on May 28.

The judgment, which was also shared on social media by the court, stated that the conviction is subject to appeal.

A second individual involved in the case, described as a friend of the footballer, was also found guilty. He received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for sexual assault and an offence against moral integrity, in addition to a financial penalty related to minor bodily harm.

The court also ordered Mir to pay €64,000 in compensation to the victim. He had pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings.

The offences were reported to have occurred on September 1, 2024, at Mir’s residence in Bétera, a town in the Valencia region.

The incident reportedly followed an encounter between Mir, his associate, and two women at a nightclub earlier that night.

Mir, 28, progressed through Valencia’s youth system before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018. He later joined Sevilla in 2021 and has had loan spells, including a return to Valencia and a stint with Elche during the 2025–26 season.

He was arrested in September 2024 and previously faced disciplinary suspension during his time at Valencia. The striker has also represented Spain at youth international level.

The case marks a major development in the player’s career and is expected to have further legal and sporting implications as proceedings continue.
