Joe Aribo Set for Surprise Rangers Return After Southampton Exit
Joe Aribo could be set for a surprise return to Scottish Premiership side Rangers as the club reportedly considers re-signing the Nigerian midfielder, DAILY POST reports.
Aribo, who left Rangers for Premier League side Southampton in a deal worth around £10 million four years ago, is now back on the transfer radar after becoming a free agent following the expiration of his contract at the English club.
The 29-year-old midfielder struggled for consistent playing time during his final season at Southampton, a situation that led to a short loan spell at Leicester City in January.
However, his stint at Leicester also failed to produce significant impact, as he made just six appearances and started only one match.
Despite his recent struggles in England, Aribo remains a highly regarded player in Scotland due to his impressive spell at Rangers.
During his three-year stay at the club, he played a key role in their domestic success, helping them secure a Scottish Premiership title and a Scottish Cup triumph.
He also etched his name into Rangers’ European history after scoring in the UEFA Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, a match they narrowly lost on penalties.
Rangers are now believed to be monitoring his situation closely as they weigh up the possibility of bringing him back to Ibrox for a second spell.
A return would mark a significant twist in Aribo’s career, especially given his strong connection with the club and fans who still remember his contributions fondly during his first stint in Glasgow.
