Why I Believe I Was a More Complete Forward Than Haaland - Ibrahimovic
Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimović has sparked fresh debate in football circles after comparing his playing class with that of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, insisting he was a more complete forward during his prime years.
Speaking in a recent interview, Ibrahimović acknowledged Haaland’s goal-scoring ability and efficiency in front of goal, describing the Norwegian as a “killer” inside the penalty box who focuses purely on finishing chances. However, he maintained that his own class offered far more variety and creativity on the pitch.
According to Ibrahimović, Haaland operates with a simplified but highly effective approach, conserving energy and relying on positioning and timing to deliver goals.
While he praised this efficiency, he suggested it limits the Norwegian’s involvement in broader build-up play and technical expression outside the box.
In contrast, the former AC Milan and Barcelona striker highlighted his own versatility, explaining that he enjoyed dropping deeper, linking play, and taking on defenders in different areas of the pitch.
He added that his ambition was not only to score, but to influence matches in multiple ways beyond finishing.
Ibrahimović also referenced a previous interview where Haaland stated his ideal game involved minimal touches and maximum efficiency.
The Swede jokingly contrasted this with his own mindset, saying he preferred to make more of every touch and expand his impact on the game.
During his illustrious career, Ibrahimović enjoyed successful spells across Europe, including a standout tenure at AC Milan, where he scored over 90 goals and helped the club secure multiple Serie A titles.
