Pedro Neto Delighted As Portugal Edge Super Eagles In Friendly Clash

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has expressed delight after Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an international friendly played on Wednesday night.

The encounter, held in Leiria, served as another positive outing for Roberto Martinez’s side as they continue preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Portugal showed quality throughout the game and eventually edged out the three-time African champions.

Neto gave the hosts the lead in the first half with a well-taken finish, ending a lengthy wait for a goal. The Super Eagles responded before halftime through striker Akor Adams, who found the back of the net to level the score.

Despite Nigeria’s efforts, Portugal regained control after the break. Francisco Conceição, who came off the bench, scored the decisive goal to seal the win and ensure Portugal maintained their winning run.

Speaking after the match, Neto said the team was pleased with its recent performances, having recorded back-to-back victories in friendly matches.

He noted that the players are focused on improving and building momentum before the World Cup kicks off.

The forward also stated that the recent games have helped the squad understand the coach’s ideas better, especially after a period in which several players had not spent much time together.

Reflecting on his goal, Neto admitted he scored from a position he does not usually prefer but was happy to contribute to the team's success. He added that helping Portugal win remains his top priority.
