Iran Squad Arrives for 2026 World Cup Amid Administrative Visa Issues

Iran’s national football team has arrived in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite ongoing diplomatic tensions involving the United States over visa restrictions affecting parts of its delegation.

The squad flew out from their training camp in Antalya, Turkey, before landing in Tijuana, Mexico, where they will be based during the tournament.

The relocation comes after weeks of uncertainty linked to visa approvals and strained relations between Tehran and Washington.

While players have reportedly been cleared to participate in the tournament, several members of the technical and administrative crew were said to have faced delays or denial of entry visas into the United States, raising concerns within the team setup.

Reports indicate that about 15 support staff were affected, a situation that has triggered complaints from Iranian officials, who described the restrictions as politically motivated and called for FIFA’s intervention.

The Iranian embassy also criticised the development on social media, accusing the United States of discriminatory treatment and urging global football authorities to ensure fairness in the handling of participating teams.

However, US officials have maintained that all required visas for players and essential personnel have been issued, insisting that security considerations remain a priority in the process.

Despite the off-field controversy, Iran’s World Cup campaign is expected to proceed, with the team set to play its Group G matches in the United States, including fixtures against New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.

The squad is now focused on final preparations as it settles into its base in Mexico ahead of the global tournament
