Konaté Opens Up On Personal Tragedies That Affected His Liverpool Season

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté has opened up about the emotional challenges he faced during the 2025–26 season, revealing that personal tragedies played a major role in affecting his performances for both club and country.

The French international, who featured in 51 matches across all competitions for Liverpool, admitted that while he remained a regular starter, he was not always able to maintain his usual consistency as the team ended the Premier League campaign in fifth place.

Konaté explained that a series of painful personal losses left him mentally drained at different stages of the season.

Despite trying to stay focused on football, he said the repeated setbacks made it difficult to fully recover emotionally while continuing to compete at the highest level.

According to the defender, the situation often left him feeling overwhelmed, as moments of progress were frequently followed by new difficulties.

However, he insisted that he continued to push forward because of his responsibility to the team and the support system around him.

He also credited his family, teammates, and Liverpool supporters for helping him stay grounded during the difficult period, even though he had to find inner strength to keep going.

Konaté added that his motivation was partly driven by what he believed his late father would have wanted.

Despite the struggles, the 27-year-old remains an important figure for Liverpool and continues to represent France under Didier Deschamps as preparations build toward the World Cup.
