NWFL Confirms Rivers State As Host Of Super Six Tournament
Rivers State, Port Harcourt, has been confirmed as the host city for the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six, marking another major moment for women’s football in the country.
The season-ending championship is scheduled to take place between Friday, June 5 and Sunday, June 14, 2026, bringing together six of the best women’s teams in Nigeria to compete for the league title.
The participating clubs for this year’s Super Six include defending contenders such as Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The lineup promises a competitive tournament, with experienced sides and new challengers battling for national glory.
Bayelsa Queens, who dominated last season by winning their sixth league title, will once again be one of the teams to watch as they aim to defend their crown. However, they are expected to face stiff competition from other strong sides who have shown impressive form throughout the season.
The Super Six competition will not only determine the 2026 NWFL champions but will also serve as a qualification pathway for continental football. The eventual winner will represent Nigeria at the WAFU B Women’s Champions League, adding extra motivation for all participating teams.
Rivers State’s selection as host further highlights its growing reputation as a key destination for major sporting events in Nigeria. With passionate football fans in Port Harcourt, the atmosphere is expected to be electric throughout the tournament.
As the countdown begins, teams will now shift focus to final preparations, fitness, and tactical adjustments ahead of what promises to be an exciting and highly competitive women’s football showdown in June.
