CAF President Makes Official Visit to Senegal Amid AFCON 2025 Fallout
Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has arrived in Dakar, Senegal, for an official visit following the controversial overturning of Senegal’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
During his stay, Motsepe met with Abdoulaye Fall, head of the Senegalese Football Federation, and is scheduled to meet Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as hold a media briefing to address questions surrounding CAF’s recent decisions.
The visit comes after CAF’s Appeals Board reversed Senegal’s championship, originally won in January when they defeated Morocco in the tournament final.
The decision cited breaches of Articles 82 and 84 of the competition’s rules, triggered by players leaving the field in protest against a refereeing call.
This ruling sparked widespread debate across Africa, leaving football fans and officials divided over the fairness of the judgment.
Motsepe’s visit is seen as a step to restore dialogue between CAF and the Senegalese football authorities, and to reinforce the organization’s commitment to rules and fair play.
Analysts suggest that the engagement could help ease tensions and provide clarity on how CAF intends to handle disputes in future tournaments.
For the Senegalese football community, this is an opportunity to express concerns and seek reassurance about the governance of African football competitions.
CAF’s president is expected to emphasize the importance of following regulations while promoting collaboration and understanding among member nations.
