Nigeria’s Super Falcons to face Cape Verde ahead of WAFCON
The Super Falcons are preparing to face Cape Verde women's national team in a series of friendly matches as part of their buildup to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
While the exact dates and venues for the friendlies are yet to be officially confirmed, the games are expected to take place during the upcoming international break for women’s football.
These friendlies will mark an important stage in the Falcons’ preparations following their recent matches against the Indomitable Lionesses during the last international window.
The Nigerian side used those fixtures to test tactics, assess player fitness, and build cohesion ahead of the continental tournament.
The 2026 WAFCON, originally scheduled for March, has been postponed to July. Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside debutants Malawi women's national team, Zambia women's national team, and Egypt women's national team.
Meanwhile, Cape Verde will make their first appearance at the tournament and are grouped in Group D with Cameroon women's national team, Ghana women's national team, and Mali women's national team.
Aside from competing for continental glory, the WAFCON 2026 finals will also serve as the qualification pathway for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Super Falcons are using the friendlies to sharpen their squad, integrate new players, and fine-tune strategies under coach management, ensuring they are in peak form when the tournament kicks off.
