Kenya Secures 2027 AFCON Hosting Rights With $30m Payment

Kenya has taken a major step towards hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations after completing the required financial commitment set by the Confederation of African Football.

The East African country paid a $30 million hosting fee, confirming its place as one of the nations that will stage the prestigious continental tournament.

The development signals Kenya’s renewed determination to play a leading role in African football. For years, the country has shown interest in hosting major competitions, and this latest move reflects a stronger level of preparation and seriousness. By meeting CAF’s requirements early, Kenya has positioned itself as a credible and reliable host.

Speaking on the progress, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya noted that the payment highlights the government’s readiness to deliver a successful tournament.

He explained that efforts are already underway to ensure all aspects of the competition meet international standards, from infrastructure to logistics and fan experience.

As part of the preparations, authorities have set up a reorganized Local Organising Committee to oversee planning and execution.

The body is expected to bring together experts from both government and private sectors, ensuring smooth coordination across key areas such as stadium development, security, transportation, and hospitality.

The 2027 tournament is expected to boost Kenya’s economy, attract global attention, and strengthen tourism.

Hosting AFCON will also provide an opportunity to upgrade sporting facilities and create lasting infrastructure that can benefit the country long after the competition ends.

Football fans across Africa will be watching closely as Kenya begins its journey towards hosting one of the continent’s biggest sporting events.

With financial obligations now settled, the focus shifts to delivering a memorable tournament that reflects the passion and diversity of African football.
