Super Eagles Ready to Battle Through 2026 World Cup Playoffs - Troos Ekong
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed optimism as Nigeria prepares for the CAF Play-Off Tournament for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16, 2025.
The Nigerian team secured their place in the playoffs following a dominant 4-0 win over Benin Republic’s Cheetahs on Tuesday night, a result that reignited hopes of qualification after missing out on an automatic ticket.
Troost-Ekong admitted that while the road to the World Cup remains challenging, the players are determined to make it to the global stage in North America. “We’re happy to have another chance. It’s not the direct route we wanted, but we’ll take it and fight through. The most important thing is to stay focused and ready for whatever comes,” he told thenff.com.
The experienced defender also emphasized that the team’s spirit remains high despite earlier setbacks, noting that everyone in the squad understands what’s at stake for Nigeria. “It’s going to be a tough journey, but we’re united and motivated to give our all to secure the ticket,” he added.
The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-final clash of the playoffs, with the winners advancing to the final stage of qualification.
Nigeria’s path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to attract attention as fans hope the team can redeem itself after missing out on the 2022 edition in Qatar.
