Arsenal, Tottenham In Race To Sign Depay

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both been linked with Memphis Depay for quite a while now.

Both teams are looking to bolstering their attacking ranks this summer.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte ought to get competition for Harry Kane, the only senior centre-forward at N17.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners have just two soon-to-be out-of-contract senior strikers in the Emirates ranks.

Last year, reports claimed that Spurs were rivalling Inter for Depay, playing for Lyon at the time.

But a month ago, a reliable source claimed that Arsenal had opened talks to sign Depay from Barcelona.

The Gunners were reportedly eyeing the Netherlands ace years ago, back when Arsene Wenger was in the dugout.

Now Italian sport repoerter Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on Depay’s situation.

The Italian, speaking said that the 28-year-old Dutch striker wants to stay put.

However, Romano also reckons there’s a chance Barca could potentially move him on.

He claimed there is interest in Depay from the Premier League, but he’s not “an option” for Tottenham.

Romano said: “He wants to continue, as he’s stated in public, it’s reality that he wants to continue at Barca.

“He wants to prove himself at Barca next season, he wants to play Champions League football with Barcelona.

“So his mission will be to stay.
“But I can’t rely that he would leave in the summer, honestly, because the situation is really open.

“He’s been approached by Premier League clubs, we had some rumours about Tottenham.”

Co-host Joel Beya then joked: “Arsenal, interested?”

Romano laughed, before continuing: “I’m told that at the moment it’s not an option (for Tottenham), they are exploring.

“So let’s see what happens with Depay. I think it’s a really open situation but Barcelona will need to sell some players.”
