DSTV LEAGUE: NBBF TO INSPECT FACILITIES

The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Tijjani Umar, along with the federation's Technical Committee Chairman, Muktar Khaleh and NBBF Secretary-General, Francis Gbiri, will on Thursday and Friday inspect facilities in Lagos ahead of the dunk-off date of the 2009/10 NBBF/DStv Premier League season.

Also to inspect the facilities with the NBBF are top officials of the league's sponsor, Multichoice Nigeria, owners of DStv pay-television.

The facilities to be inspected are the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, sports hall of the University of Lagos and the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park.

According to NBBF president Umar, the federation will ascertain the playing conditions of these venues for the purpose of commencing the new season which has suffered several postponements.

The NBBF will round off the visit with a meeting with the management of DStv, club owners and sports journalists.

Meanwhile, the postponed National Division One Championship earlier billed for Ilorin, Kwara State, will now hold at the sports hall of the Murtala Square , Kaduna from April 16 to 24.

The championship, which was earlier schedule to hold between March 27 and April 4, was postponed due to technical hitches but the NBBF has assured teams that the championship will go on as schedule with Kaduna State hosting.

The Division One Championship which was last played in 2003 will serve as an avenue for the lower teams to seek promotion to the elite premier league.
