Students Scholarships Gulped N669m In 2014 – Yobe Govt
BEVERLY HILLS, January 14, (THEWILL) – A total amount of N669million was spent by the Yobe State Government on students scholarship in 2014.
The state government disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the amount was spent on 15, 745 students enrolled in various institutions of learning within and outside the country.
The disclosure came in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam on Press Affairs and Information, Mallam Abdullahi Bego.
Bego said the governor gave approval for “the release of funds to the State Scholarships Board for the payment of these student bursaries as part of his drive to ensure that Yobe students get the best possible education, skills and training they need to play a part in moving the state forward.”
According to the statement, “Of the 15,745 beneficiaries of the government's scholarship payments in 2014, 15, 744 students enrolled in institutions of leaning in Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna and the Nigerian Law School, etc. were paid a total of N309.13 million.
“Other beneficiaries included 17 PhD, 39 MSc and 40 medical students enrolled in overseas universities who received a total of N360 million.”
The statement further said: “The Governor is committed to supporting Yobe students in every way possible to make it easier for them to enroll in and graduate from universities and other institutions of higher learning.
“The Yobe State Government will also continue to pursue an all-hands-on-deck approach to revitalising and retrofitting its primary and secondary schools to enable them provide quality education to Yobe pupils and students.”
