Look Beyond Oil, Obi Advises Nigerians

Gov. Peter Obi has advised Nigerians to look beyond oil and inwardly into others areas, insisting that most countries that do not have oil are surviving today because of huge investment in human capital that unleashed their potentials in other areas. He gave

rday in Canada at the Convention of Anambra people resident in the place at Toronto, Canada. He was reacting to the jubilation of the people of Anambra State on the news that Orient petroleum has started drilling oil in the State.

Further, Obi called on Nigerians to embrace what he called the commendable policies of the Government of President Goodluck Jonathan, which, according to him,                                                              was focusing on other areas that when paid adequate attention to, would compliment oil as the mainstay of Nigerian economy. He gave specific example with the new policy that is paying attention to the revitalization of agriculture as well as conscious efforts to expand the manufacturing base of the country through aggressive efforts to attract foreign direct investment into the country as well as other numerous efforts to empower the youth and improve power situation for the flourishing of Small and Medium enterprises. .

Obi condemned the attitude of some people Nigerians that always criticize their country for the sake of criticisms without contributing any things on how it will become better.

Commending Anambra people in Canada, he said was moved to attend their convention because of their support to the State in the form of donating learning equipment worth millions of Naira to the State. He called on other Anambra people elsewhere to emulate them and always be concerned on how to work for the good of the State.

Later at a Town Hall meeting, Obi explained to them what his Government is doing in the State. 'We successfully returned schools to the missionaries backed by financial support to them. We are already seeing the result as Anambra came first in NECO Exam of 2012. We are also rendering massive support to health Institutions owned by the Churches. Today Anambra is financially stable, meeting its obligations without borrowing from any financial institution.'

On security, the Governor said his Government was doing everything to overcome the challenges, including creating jobs for the unemployed and taken series of security measure such as massive support to security agencies in the State.

Speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Fidelis Ezemenari, former General manger of Ajaokuta Stell Complex,   described Anambra as lucky to have a person as Governor Obi at the helms of affairs today. He said that those of them that visited home regularly could attest to the great efforts in the State, starting from return of peace to enabling environment for businesses to thrive

The Convention was attended by Anambra people in the country, the Anambra State Embassy as well as many serving and retired officials of Canadian Government.
