EDO PDP BACKS PROBE OF OLAITAN'S ASSASSINATION, ACCIDENT

BY GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE
BENIN - EDO State  chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has supported Governor Adams Oshiomhole's request for a speedy, high-powered and thorough probe into the accident that claimed the lives of three journalists and the assassination of Mr. Olaitan Oyerinde and to make the findings public.

The party, in a statement in Benin, yesterday, by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Matthew Urhoghinde, said: 'Our party will take definite steps to oppose any attempt to sweep the results of the investigation under the carpet as all Nigerians are expecting to hear who actually did what in the execution of the dastardly acts.

'The PDP also condemns Governor Oshiomhole's action in pre-empting the findings of the probe panel and hastily concluding that certain persons were responsible for the incidents.'

The party described recent statements credited to the governor as inciting and unbecoming of someone in an exalted position of the governor of a state.

'For us, that is a starting point for development when voted into office. And for us, this is not negotiable. Edo State has lost too much to insecurity. We do not deserve this torture of insecurity in our state as has been and is being sacrificed on the altar of political partisanship and crass intolerance,' he said.

PDP noted that the solution to all problems in the state was provision of gainful employment to the teeming youths, who roam the streets without being provided with jobs and vocational training centres for entrepreneurial skills development.
