AUTOPSY REPORT STALLS PROBE INTO BIZMAN'S DEATH IN POLICE CELL

By Evelyn Usman
Lagos - Indication emerged, yesterday, that investigation into the death of a businessman last month inside the Ikeja Police Division cell, might have been stalled following  pathologists refusal to conduct further autopsy on the deceased, over claim that the deceased had gun shot wounds.

The pathologist, it was gathered, had abandoned the deceased, insisting rather, that the bereaved family should get their own pathologists to conduct the autopsy.

Although the case  had been transferred to the Police High Command, Abuja, on the order of the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, for further investigation, Vanguard gathered that there had been a hitch, following delay of the autopsy.

It was gathered that the pathologists were at the verge of carrying out the autopsy on the deceased, when it was reported in one of the national dailies, that he had gun shot wounds, a report that was said to have contradicted the findings of the pathologists.

A source at the Police headquarters told Vanguard that 'since  there are claims that the deceased had gun shot wounds, it will be proper for the family to get their own pathologist to carry out the autopsy, so that nobody, including you the media will say there not was a foul play at the end, or indict the police further.

As it is now, the IG does not intend to sweep this case under the carpet, hence its transfer here. Members of the public will be briefed as new facts emerge.'
