Imoke Says Aniagolu, Essien-Igbokwe Are National Assets; Condoles Families

CALABAR, July 06, (THEWILL) - Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has decried the serial like deaths of high profile Nigerians in the past two months.

Reacting to the deaths of retired Justice Anthony Aniagolu, and music icon and Lady of Songs, Christy Essien-Igbokwe, Imoke noted that this spate of deaths had robbed the nation of experienced brains in the judicial and entertainment industry.

The Governor described late Justice Aniagolu as an eminent jurist who has made immeasurable contributions to the development of the Justice system in Nigeria during his years at the bench especially as a justice of the Supreme Court.

Senator Imoke added that Justice Aniagolu’s insightful judgement on grave constitutional issues have stabilized the polity and provided strategic direction for the country at crucial moments in the nation’s history.

He observed that Justice Aniagolu would be remembered as an urbane and sartorial legal luminary who was given to robust intellectual debates on constitutional issues, and statesman stance on national issues.

Similarly, the Governor said the death of Lady of Songs Christy Essien-Igbokwe is an inestimable loss to the nation and the entertainment world.

He noted that Christy Essien-Ibokwe’s musical and acting career added significant value to music and folklore noting that her songs had a depth and rhythm that spoke to the hopes and aspirations of music lovers of different classes.

He also said the versatility of her talent was evident in the fact that she sang not only in English but other languages.

Governor Imoke concluded that the late musical star will be remembered as a multi-talented singer, actress and comedian who dedicated her life to the development of music and entertainment, especially her founding of The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, (PMAN).
