NASS Poll In Ekeremor/Sagbama Constituency To Hold On April 28

ABUJA, April 26, (THEWILL) - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled National Assembly elections in the outstanding wards of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State for Thursday, April 28, 2011.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Kayode Idowu, this is as a consequence of the inconclusive elections held in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District (comprising Sagbama and Ekeremor LGAs) and the Ekeremor/Sagbama Federal Constituency on April 9, 2011.

The statement said 'Following the April 9 elections, results were announced for four (4) wards out of fourteen (14) in Sagbama LGA by the Returning Officer for the Senatorial election. Investigations by INEC showed that elections did not hold in the twelve (12) wards in Ekeremor.

'The Commission has resolved that the National Assembly elections be conducted in the remaining ten (10) wards of Sagbama LGA and the twelve (12) wards of Ekeremor LGA on April 28.

‘It is expected that conclusive results in these areas will be declared for the Senatorial and Federal Constituency seats after the April 28 poll.

‘INEC once again restates its determination to ensure the credibility of the electoral process and safeguard its integrity,’ the statement added.
