4 KILLED IN MULTIPLE ROAD CRASH IN KWARA

A total of four persons yesterday lost their lives in a multiple motor accident involving three vehicles at Ganmo along Ilorin – Ajase-Ipo Road, Kwara State.

Four other victims of the accident were rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment.

According to an eyewitness, the accident involving three vehicles including a lorry occurred at the Ganmo –Amoyo end of the road. He added that the lorry with registration number Lagos XU 972 EKY lost control at a bend and ran into a Peugeot wagon with registration number XA 278 KWB and another private car with no identification number.

The commercial vehicle with nine passengers was reported to have caught fire immediately, making it difficult for sympathisers to rescue the victims.

Three of the victims trapped in the vehicle were burnt beyond recognition because they could not be rescued until the fire brigade men from Ilorin came to put the fire off.

The driver of the lorry was reported to have escaped into the bush immediately the accident occurred.

The accident led to a serious traffic jam for several hours along the ever busy road. The Public Relations Officers of the Kwara State Police Command and Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC) Mr. Ezekiel Dabo and Mr. Sunday Dogunro confirmed the report and warned drivers to be cautious and obey traffic rules and regulations.

According to them, the corpses of the victims had been deposited at UITH mortuary while those injured are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
