Just In: President Tinubu Appoints Ex-Governor Fayose, 25 Others

President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), alongside 25 other appointments into 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement by the president's special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Fayose will chair the board of the REA, where he will work alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors. The agency's Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors will complete the board.

President Tinubu also reconstituted the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, appointing retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman. Former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named secretary of the commission.

Other appointees to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo), Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna), Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) as commissioners and members representing their respective states.

In another key appointment, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who had earlier been named Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.

The President also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

Similarly, Engineer Julius Oloro was named Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), replacing Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.

Tinubu also approved the constitution of the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu appointed as chairman. Other members of the board are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

The President further appointed Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu'aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund in April.

To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, Tinubu appointed economist, legal scholar and Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Gisaor Vincent Iorja.

The Presidency added that all the appointments take immediate effect.
