Police Nabs Content Creator, ‘Odogwu Of Asaba’ Over Alleged Rape
The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as "Odogwu of Asaba," over allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman who later died after allegedly taking a poisonous substance.
The command announced the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, saying the suspect was taken into custody following a petition submitted to the police over the incident.
According to the police, the deceased had travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her for what he described as a content creation training programme, which he had promoted on his social media platforms.
Police said that upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took the young woman to a hotel where he raped and physically assaulted her.
Edafe added that after returning home, the woman reportedly appeared emotionally traumatised and informed her parents about the alleged assault.
According to the police, before her death, the deceased recorded a video in which she narrated her alleged ordeal and described the emotional distress she experienced following the incident. The police said she later allegedly ingested a toxic substance in what was described as a suicide and subsequently died despite efforts to save her life. Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch an immediate investigation into the allegations. The police said the investigation led to Ogbonna's arrest.
"During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the Police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case," Edafe stated.
The Commissioner of Police assured the deceased's family and members of the public that the command would conduct a thorough and professional investigation.
He also pledged that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked and that appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law if warranted by the outcome of the investigation.
The police urged members of the public to allow investigators to conclude their work and refrain from actions capable of undermining the ongoing probe.
