Video News: I’ll Brief Our People What Transpired— Says Gov. Makinde After Visiting Oyo Pupils, Teachers At Military Hospital
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Saturday, paid a visit to the Military Hospital in Ibadan to see the rescued schoolchildren and teachers, who are currently receiving medical treatment at the facility.
The victims were the pupils and teachers abducted by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026.
The Presidency announced their rescue on Friday, with Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosing that security agencies successfully secured the release of all the captives.
Security personnel prevented members of the media from gaining entry to the hospital as part of tight security measures.
Several government officials also waited outside while the governor was allowed alone into the medical facility to meet the rescued victims.
Addressing the media following the visit, governor Makinde sued for unity, saying that the incident should provide an opportunity to tackle the issues bedeviling the country. He also promised to address the state resident in a later day.
“It's not usually the best time for us to sow seeds of division. The best time for us to come together, you know, and confront our challenges. So that's really what at this moment I want to say to the people,” he said.
“In the course of the week, I will officially brief our people and the nation at large on what exactly has transpired.”'
