Soldiers Kill Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Arms In Kebbi Ambush

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a military operation in Kebbi State.

The operation, carried out by troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force on Friday, June 27, 2026, took place in the Sabarumawa axis of the state following intelligence reports that the terrorists were planning an attack on the community.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the route suspected to be used by the insurgents.

The military said the terrorists walked into the ambush and were immediately engaged in a fierce gun battle.

"The superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the terrorists neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled into the surrounding forest," the statement said.

Following the encounter, troops conducted exploitation operations in the area and recovered several weapons and operational items, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.

The latest success is part of ongoing military offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security across Nigeria's North-West region, which has witnessed persistent attacks by armed groups and bandits.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and vowed to sustain offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements operating in the region.

The military also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The operation marks another significant blow against the Lakurawa group as security forces intensify efforts to curb terrorism and improve security in Kebbi and other North-West states.
