Two Arrested As Police Discovers Body Of Married Woman Killed By Lover In Anambra Community
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged murder of a 33-year-old married woman whose body was discovered in a culvert in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
The command said investigations revealed that the victim was allegedly killed by a man said to have been in a romantic relationship with her and an accomplice, following months of intensive intelligence gathering and forensic analysis.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe.
According to the police, the case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her disappearance at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.
“On March 14, 2026, the lifeless body of an unidentified female was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The deceased was later identified by her father as his missing daughter,” the statement said.
Following the discovery, the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for a detailed probe.
Police investigators reportedly deployed intelligence-led operations and digital forensic techniques, which eventually led to the arrest of the two suspects on June 6, 2026.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, allegedly admitted to committing the crime and provided details of his relationship with the deceased.
According to the police, he claimed he had been involved with the victim for about three years and only later discovered that she was married.
The suspect further alleged that after an altercation involving the woman’s husband, he developed a mysterious illness that affected his eyesight. He reportedly blamed the development on the situation and nursed resentment that ultimately led to the attack.
Police said Ikwugwara confessed that on March 13, he invited the woman to his residence under the pretext of seeking assistance because of his health condition.
Investigators said that upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, inflicting fatal injuries.
“The suspects subsequently disposed of the body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, during the early hours of the following day,” the statement added.
The command disclosed that both suspects have confessed to their respective roles in the killing and would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives involved in the case for their persistence, professionalism and commitment to justice.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to thoroughly investigate criminal cases and ensure that offenders are brought to justice, while assuring residents that the police would continue to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
