A Tribute To The New Chief Imam Of Ilorin
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, Who grants authority and honour to whomsoever He wills and withdraws it from whomsoever He wills. Allah says:
"Say: O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honour whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your Hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent." (Qur'an 3:26)
With immense gratitude to Allah and profound joy, I join the good people of Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah, and all lovers of knowledge and righteousness in congratulating Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani on his well-deserved appointment as the Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR. Indeed, the will and decree of Allah have prevailed. Leadership is a divine trust from Allah, and He bestows it upon whomsoever He wills according to His wisdom and perfect knowledge.
The appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki is not merely an elevation to a position of honour; it is the assumption of a sacred responsibility that carries profound spiritual, moral, and social obligations. As Chief Imam, he stands among the foremost custodians of Islamic guidance in Ilorin, charged with the responsibility of promoting unity, preserving Islamic values, strengthening communal harmony, and serving as a beacon of faith and wisdom for present and future generations. Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of this appointment is its deep historical significance.
Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani comes from a distinguished lineage of Islamic scholarship and leadership that has served Ilorin Emirate for generations. He is the grandson of Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, the 8th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, and the son of Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka, the 10th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin. His emergence therefore represents not merely the elevation of an individual scholar but the continuation of a noble legacy rooted in knowledge, piety, service, and unwavering devotion to Islam.
Throughout the history of Ilorin, renowned for its rich Islamic heritage and intellectual traditions, learned families have played pivotal roles in sustaining the city's reputation as a centre of Islamic scholarship, spiritual enlightenment, and moral leadership. The Dasuki Imam Fulani family has remained one of the respected pillars of this noble tradition, contributing significantly to the religious development of the Emirate through teaching, preaching, mentorship, and exemplary leadership.
His appointment therefore reflects both continuity and renewal a bridge connecting Ilorin's glorious Islamic past with its promising future. It demonstrates that true leadership in Islam is founded upon knowledge, character, patience, sacrifice, and sincere service to humanity. Allah says:
"And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and had certainty in Our signs." (Qur'an 32:24)
The new Chief Imam is widely recognised as an erudite scholar, an accomplished teacher, and a man of remarkable intellectual depth and moral integrity. His educational journey, which spans traditional Islamic institutions and modern academic establishments, reflects a lifelong commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. His years of service in teaching, preaching, community development, and Islamic propagation have prepared him for this noble responsibility.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah intends good for a person, He grants him understanding of the religion." (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
By Allah's grace, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki has demonstrated this understanding through his scholarship, humility, dedication, and tireless service to the Ummah. His appointment inspires confidence that the spiritual affairs of the community will continue to be guided with wisdom, moderation, compassion, and adherence to the teachings of Islam. As sons and daughters of Ilorin, we take immense pride in this historic appointment. We pray that Allah makes his tenure beneficial to Islam, the Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State, Nigeria, and humanity at large. May Allah grant him the wisdom of the righteous scholars who came before him, strengthen him upon the path of truth, and make him a source of guidance, inspiration, and blessing for the young and old alike.
O Allah, bless our new Chief Imam. Grant him long life in Your obedience, sound health, abundant barakah, sincerity in service, and unwavering faith. Increase him in knowledge, wisdom, patience, understanding, and foresight. Make his leadership a means of unity, peace, progress, stability, and spiritual revival throughout Ilorin Emirate and beyond.
O Allah, protect him from every evil, visible and invisible. Guide his decisions, bless his family, reward his efforts, strengthen his resolve, and make his legacy one of righteousness, justice, humility, and distinguished service to Islam.
Our Lord, make him a leader among the righteous, a defender of truth, and a caller to goodness. Let his words inspire hearts, let his actions strengthen faith, and let his tenure bring prosperity and harmony to the Muslim community.
"Our Lord, pour upon us patience, make firm our steps, and grant us victory." (Qur'an 2:250)
We ask Allah to preserve Ilorin Emirate as a citadel of faith, learning, culture, peace, and excellence. May He continue to bless its traditional institutions, its scholars, its leaders, and its people.
