Governor Makinde Crowns Three Newly Elevated Chiefs In Absentia
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially pronounced Senator Sarafadeen Alli and two other high chiefs as traditional rulers in Ibadan despite their absence at the coronation ceremony.
The royal event, which attracted dignitaries from across the country, was held on Friday, April 3, at the historic Mapo Hall in the state capital.
Those crowned include Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin as the Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Oyekola Babalola, the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Oba Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland.
It was gathered that the new traditional rulers were absent at the venue. However, coronation rites were carried out despite their absence.
The presentation of the Staff of Office in absentia was done by the state deputy governor, Bayo Lawal.
No reason has been given on why the chiefs were not present at the coronation ceremony, raising questions about the timing and planning of the event.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who earlier announced the ceremony, noted that with this promotion, the three high chiefs ascend to Obaship status, attaining elevated rank within the state traditional council.
On Thursday, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, debunked rift between himself and Governor Makinde.
He confirmed that the absence of the chiefs is due to their personal schedules and not any conflict with the government.
