NJC Asks President Tinubu To Appoint 14 Individuals As Federal High Court Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has forwarded 14 names to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court.
In a statement released on Thursday, the NJC said the decision was reached during its 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14, 2026.
“Council at its 110th Meeting held on 13 and 14 January 2026, presided over by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, resolved to recommend to President Bola Tinubu, 14 names of successful candidates for appointment as Judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement read.
The council’s fresh recommendations followed a similar move last week, when it recommended Justice Joseph Oyewole, Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, for appointment to the Supreme Court, alongside 35 other candidates for various judicial positions nationwide.
The NJC explained that the delay in making the latest recommendations was due to the unavailability of security reports on the candidates.
It said it “resolved to await the submission of the security report before forwarding the names of the candidates to the President.”
The council said it later received the necessary security clearance, which allowed it to proceed with the submission.
“Having received the security report, with no adverse comments on any of the recommended candidates, Council, today, the 22nd day of January 2026, forwarded the names of the following candidates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointment as Judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement added.
The recommended candidates include Suleiman Amida Hassan, Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, and Salihu Aisha Yunusa.
Others are: Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.
