Reactions As Tinubu Shares AI-generated Image Of Meeting With Rwanda’s President’ In Paris
Many Nigerians have been taken aback as recent viral images of President Bola Tinubu meeting with Rwanda’s president, Paul Kagame, were discovered to be artificial intelligence generated.
On Sunday, Tinubu was reported to have met with Kagame in Paris, France.
The president announced the meeting in a post on his official X handle.
He wrote, “This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape.”
Meanwhile, Grok watermark could be seen in pictures of the meeting.
The reason for using an AI-generated image to depict the meeting remains unclear.
Grok is a generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) chatbot developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s company. It’s used for real-time search, generating images, and other functions.
Some netizens have criticised the presidency for using AI generated images for such official engagement.
An X user identified as Ademola wrote, “AI generated image ???? What is even real in this administration at this point … cos if handler can’t even know you cannot use an AI generated image for a presidential official presentation like this.”
Another netizen with Baby Yoo as username commented, “Mr President, please sack whoever generated this picture for you to post publicly with the GROK watermark showing. Sack your photographer too. Sack whoever approved this post. Sack your media team too.”
